Footprint Reporting

My project has over 600 slots in an integrator plane.

I’m currently investigating the introduction of (new to Capital 11.1) applying library footprints to the devices that are placed in the slots to manage cavity assignments.

I would like to track how well my plane is being populated as I progress and I would like to use the simplicity of the Connectivity Reporting mechanism in Integrator to help me do this.

I would like to report out information from devices like e.g.

The part number assigned to the device

The footprint Name

And other attribute information

And I would like to report out connector part numbers assigned to virtual connectors via the footprint.

With this new footprint capability you have introduced can you offer a more advanced reporting mechanism to take advantage of the additional attributes that have now become accessible.

As a user it seems I can only add rules/constraints that are created using and if then type of statement.

Is it possible to create a rule such as set wire property X to value y.

HarnessXC: I am trying to change a multicore part number but it will not let me edit or change it. I am trying to avoid having to delete the multicores and start over with the new part number. Is there a better way?

Spec vs Vendor Data

Typically we have a specificaiton that provides detials as to part construction whcih multpile vendors will meet. In Theory this means I should be able to have a single Internal part number (IPN )and list multiple supplier part numbers (SPN) to that part. However, I find that specificaitons typically defined the worse case, do not exeed criteria for dimensions and weight, if it defines it at all. This causes some concern as my IPN is only allowed one value for each dimension and weight, and while I coudl do worse case, it would not accurate reflect each SPN values. Is there a way to associate the Dimensions and weight, or other properties, to each SPN whie maintaining a single IPN assocation?

Library part Domains

Occasionally we need to make Vritual connectors for exampel for Direct to device connections. We do not want an designer to select an utilize this part on their drawing, it is strictly for the device footprint. To isolate these parts we were going to place them ina library domain.

Since a user does not access to the library domain, would this cause issues with using the Device which is not in any domain. What if the foot print was a harness footprint, woudlthe tool genereate the harness connectors even though you do not have domain access to the connector, but do have it for the device?

I had define signal map for try to two methods.

1. The 1st method:

a) defined device footprint in logic

b) assign footprint in project

c) Placement BCM device in Integrator design

2. The 2dn method:

a) Define device footprint in logic

b) Define footprint constraint in Integrator design

c) Placement in Integrator design

d) The results not the same with footrpint in library

Why the footprint can apply in logic and project, but cannot apply in integrator design?

Why select terminal checkbox is not checked in Cavity Component Management

Hi,

I found that the checkbox of select terminal in Cavity Coomponent management is not selected by default and the terminal is not automatically selected. but it did for seal selection.

The enviroment is Capital 2012,1 SP1202 harness XC in Windows 7 X86 system.

If I manually check the checkbox ,then terminal is slected automatically.

My question is what factor determine the checkbox is checked or not?

When I put two device with two pins connected with the same singal into one slot. The slot connector will also have two pin with the signal.

But I expect only one pin. I think this device pins should be connected by the internal conduction, and slot pins with the same signal should be combined defaultly.

What shoud I do to have the pins combined automatically?

MG NWF file to Creo 2 - Fails with MultiCore

We are new to MG software and recently be setting up Capital Harness to interface with Creo 2.0 using a NWF file. When designing a harness we are having issues importing the NWF file in Creo and getting the wires to route. Need anyone who has been down this path to comment.

I will detail the issue below: (The problem comes in that we could develop a best practice to always route the wires starting with the same connector but this is unrealistic since we could revise the design in the future and change to the wires previously routed by a different individual and no one know how they routed the wires to/from between connectors.

that two multicores, both with exactly the same structure and library part, were coming into Creo differently. Those two multicores are named 2820M0054-22 and 2820M0055-22. Multicore 2820M0055-22 routed OK in Creo while multicore 2820M0054-22 failed.

We pinpointed this to an issue in the NWF file that was bridged out from Logic. For multicore 2820M0054-22 the “from” and “to” orientation was inconsistent among the wires of the multicore. Following is an abbreviated except from the NWF file. I have underlined the problem area.

We tested by manually editing the line in the NWF file from

ATTACH P1002 G J1005 3

ATTACH J1005 3 P1002 G

so that the “from” and “to” connectors were listed in the same order as for the multicore and the rest of its conductors. This fixed the routing problem so that all of the multicores routed properly in Creo. This is clearly an issue in the NWF bridge out from Logic.

NWF export to Creo 2 - PARAMETER UNITS MM wrong

Has anyone had to deal with the PARAMETER UNITS MM syntax in the NWF file being wrong when exporting in inch to Creo 2.0? This causes import issues when designing in inch during the import, data obviously comes in with the inch dimension but size in metrics. I know MG is working on a fix but with my last post it appears the NWF import/export has a lot to be desired going between Harness and Creo to route the harnesses. Any additional trick any of you have figured out would be great if you could share them.

For anyone that has had the issue we solved by writting a vbscript that is run against a folder with a single or multiple NWF file(s) in it to correct the following:

does anyone know how the fields in the header line of a txt file are defined ? The specification only contains an example. I want to generate the header line from external information and import it into capital library . So I need to know what I should put in the fields - or if they are relevant at all.

Hii,

I would like to use find option in my circuit schematics in Capital Logic, where I find everytime difficult to search the wire with wire ID in the project.
I need this option to find everytime the wire ID to clear the issues related to connectivity check after the buildlist generation.
After reading the help document, could not get the clear idea. Is there any simple way to find the wire ID search by an easy way like in Vesys Classic we have simple option of search wire,component,connector?

Hello,

I am using CHS 2010.2 SP1109.19 and using generative flow.

I have used single project for two different platforms, below mentioned steps are foloowed,

1) Created single project and released drawings for 1st platform.

2) 2nd Platform schematic is same as 1st.

3) Copied 1st platform integrator plane and modified it to match with 2nd.

4) Some minor changes received for the 2nd platform schematic.

5) Created seperate Design and Diagrm with 'Copy within current project' for 2nd platform.

6) Modified it for those minor chages in Sensor Part number and its connection.

7) Trying to associate this new design with the existing 2nd platform Integrator plane.

8) Found all the devices present on this new digram got unplaced and wires data lost.

I cant use the same schematic diagram as project deadlines are different and technical publication will not accept single schematic for both platform.

Please suggest me easy way to resolve this issue.

I have some questions connected with processing (Modular Breakdown, Harness Engineering, Composite Breakdown) in Modular XC.

Must be for every module and derivative new diagram created? Is any possibility to switch off this function ? Can they exist without any diagram? If diagram is missing will be I able to generate some reports ?

I would like to know if there is a way to update the part numbers from database in Capital Designer , without using the Processing options function.

We have a new data base, but the relations between the connectors and terminals are not yet done. We made some changes at part numbers in Component Maintenance. We would like to have the new part numbers in design, without using Processing options function. Is there a way?

IXAttributeSetter and addProperty

Hi,

I don`t know if anybody had this issue, I`m trying to set/add a property through IXAttributeSetter.addProperty method, but when the actual Attribute name exists and is read only, it`s telling me that I can`t create the attribute (which isn`t what I want to do, and I`m indeed calling addProperty and not addAttribute)

It surprises me since it is possible for me to create one under the Capital Harness when I edit the object, I would expect the API to have somewhat the same behavior.

Let me know if there`s anythings I could look for.

so quick question, is tehre a way to retrieve the default values of the attributes through API (or to resest them to the default value)?

I`ve been able to do it for the properties using the OTI (Object Type Informations), but I can`t seem to find anything about it in the API documentation.

I have some Rules set up at the project level, both for Logic designs and for HarnessXC designs. The rules can be seen either from Capital Project or from within Logic or HarnessXC by going in the menus to Edit-->Rules.

However I am finding that there is an additional step required in order to make any of the rules effective for the Logic and HarnessXC designs within the project. It seems that for each design we have to go to the Edit Design Properties dialog for that design, go to the Rules tab, and add the Rules there. Only after that step are the rules effective when doing Actions-->Apply Constraints or when running the DRC's.

Having to perform this addition step of adding the rule to each design seems both cumbersome and a big opportunity for error. It is too easy to forget to add the rules to a design once in a while.

What are the preferred ways to ensure that a "standard" set of rules which are defined at the Project level will always be applied to every design in the project? Can the rules be automatically added to every design?
