If I get signed up for online class and I don't have a Questa license, can I get a "limited-time" license to use to perform the labs?

From the Engineering Matters Blog:

"If I had to characterize what the next decade holds for the engineering profession here in the United States, it wouldn’t be positive. First, there’s a projected shortfall in STEM graduates. Basically, engineering hasn’t captured enough of the interests of the next generation to build a sufficient wave of next generation engineers. Second, the largest generation of engineers in history, the Boomers, are approaching retirement. And even though the recession has delayed retirement plans for many, they will eventually retire. Third, some portion of GenX and GenY engineers currently in engineering roles are not happy with their opportunities..."

There actually are some bright spots in here, but you have to read the full post to find them.

The Mentor Graphics Displaced Worker Program

Complimentary training courses, events and community to enable re-employment

In this challenging economy Mentor Graphics is taking a leading role to help the EDA community return to work. In order to facilitate displaced workers becoming employed, we've re-launched our Displaced Worker program to offer educational and networking tools for EDA workers looking for work.

1. Online Community

We have set up an Employment & Training Community to provide a central place where you can network with peers, post or review resumes, and ask questions about the Displaced Worker Program. Please visit it often to check program updates and additional training courses.

2. Complimentary Training

As part of the Mentor Graphics Displaced Worker program, complimentary training is offered to displaced designers and engineers on a "space available" basis in our Mentor Graphics Public Training Centers or Live Online Classes. Qualified candidates are accepted if they meet our terms and conditions for attendance. As a guideline, to participate in the program you should have a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Electronic Engineering or comparable experience. Specific courses may have additional prerequisites. Here's how to request complimentary training.

3. Events

User2User, the Mentor Graphics user conference to provide customers the opportunity to learn, share, and network, is complimentary and displaced workers in the EDA industry are welcome. Advance registration is required.

How long does one have to wait to attend complimentary training in Mentor Graphics education services classes(Expedition)?

Displaced Worker Training Program status

How do I find out if I'm eligible or accepted into the Displaced Worker Training Program? I read the participation requirements and I come up short. The requirements suggest either a BS or MS degree is required; my level of education is an associate’s degree. However, I’ve been using Mentor Graphics’ DxDesigner, PADS Layout and PADS Router for the past five years. After considering my history of experience, I signed up for the program but have no way of knowing whether or not I’m eligible or accepted. Is there a way to find out the status of my application?

How long until I can take a Displaced Worker Class?

There isn't a single answer to the question of how long it takes to be placed in a class. Available seats in scheduled classes are offered to displaced workers when it looks like we have space, usually about 3 weeks before the class is scheduled to begin. We offer classes on a first come first served basis. If your requested class is offered frequently, you are more likely to be offered a class in the next several months than a less frequently offered class.

I hope that this is not against the rules! If not, this information would be helpful. If yes, then I am sorry and do not answer or let me know that it is not allowed.

Targeted for Mentor representatives.

Since PCB layout design is a niche market and Mentor toolsets even more narrowing market, it is difficult to search out companies that use these tools.

Could Mentor distribute the displaced workers resumes to appropriate companies HR managers and PCB layout group managers/supervisors?

And/or could Mentor post a list of Mentor user companies by toolset usage, so we could do our research on those companies?

For all other users:

Could you please post what company you are with and what toolset you use?

Are any of you aware of Board Station positions anywhere? Both direct and contract.

Are any of you aware of Expedition positions anywhere? Both direct and contract.

Is anyone aware of a possible position opening up due to someone retiring or leaving in the near future?

One of the primary features of the Mentor Graphics Displaced Worker Program is the complimentary training on Mentor Graphics products available on a "space available" basis.

How to Request Complimentary Training

You submit a program registrationhttp://www.mentor.com/training_and_services/training/dwp/ request and resume.
Mentor's Education Services Representatives (ESRs) adds you to our Course Request List in the order applications are received.
Mentor's ESRs review course availability each week.
When space is available in a course, you:

· are contacted via email if the requested course has an opening;

· have three business days to contact us so we can register you;

· receive a registration confirmation email from us;

· are contacted by an instructor to confirm your qualifications to take the course.

After completing the course, if you agree, we post confirmation of your course completion on the Employment and Training Community so potential employers can see your updated training.
