HI Tom,
please provide me details about Industry standards tests done for Reliablity & life time estimation of PCBA.
Thanks in Advance!
Ramnec
I think Tom has left.
BTW when TOM floated his venture in the name of PCB LIBRARIES and it was a individual company - it was pretty live with good amount of discussion - now its like dead forum
What is the reason - Hey come up with your opinions and make this forum active.
Lets us understand where TOM is. Is he still a part of Mentor graphics or left the TEAM
Hi ceda
Is it so? so where is TOM?
I tried to contact him in his Email ID:Tom.Hausherr@PCBMatrix.com, but a received a mail unable to deliver report!
Yes we had a very good time in the Pcb matrix forum discussing & learning, sharing our knowledge, missing it now....
How about dave, Marce, Nightwish, ganesh, Joachim and others???
Regards,
Ramnec
Ramnec,
We sold PCB Matrix, Corp. to Valor, Inc. and then Mentor took ownership of those assets. We did not sell PCB Libraries, Inc. Mentor Graphics employees took over the development of LP Wizard and they are doing a fantastic job.
After Mentor Graphics let the original PCB Matrix team go (which was not a bad thing and totally understandable and could turn out to be better for us and the global electronics industry), we started the process of reopening PCB Libraries, Inc. (PCBL) and we are engaged in the creation of the largest PCB library project in the electronics industry. The project includes the creation of a web-based "Vending Machine" that will offer PCB libraries uploaded by PCB designers worldwide and quality controlled by us and software programs built into the website. PCB Libraries, Inc. will offer a 25% starting life time royalty for sales of every library part donated to the sight. We refer to this project as "Parts On Demand" (POD) in which high quality library parts will sell for as little as $1 each. The main "master" library format will be Mentor Graphics PADS Layout format. The new PADS library will be heavily screened and 5 star rated by the consumers. Then anyone else can take those master PADS library parts and convert them to any other CAD tool format and upload them to the PCBL server to add them to the Vending Machine and claim ownership of them to receive a royalty on all sales of the parts they upload via PayPal. There are over 100 million library parts for schematic symbols, 3D models and land patterns that need to be uploaded and there will be a couple thousand people involved in the project worldwide. These participants will be known as "Podner's" who will have back door password access to upload parts.
We opened up a Talk Forum to get things started - http://www.PCBLibraries.com/Forum - you can register there and get in on the ground floor. The main website will not open until the IPC APEX event where I will be announcing the new project on February 27th at the "Designers Day" event - http://www.pcblibraries.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=6&title=ipc-apex-expo-2012
I cannot go into any further details until after the IPC APEX event, as IPC and all the media want the first opportunity to break the news of this upcoming project. I cannot even start posting content on our own Forum until after March 1, 2012. I can say that an IPC world standard is involved in the project as we move forward to greatly enhance the IPC-7351 "C" publication for land pattern technology.
This project is being developed right now and not ready for release yet, so please give us 1 or 2 more months before expecting any substantial activity. But we need to stand together to eliminate duplication of effort in the PCB library space and offer immediate download of affordable high quality libraries to everyone in the electronics industry.
Best Regards,
Tom

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the info!
Happy to hear about your New project
, Its a great effort & My best wishes for it! I am sure it will be of good benefit to the Electronics industry.
I would like to suggest the follows:
1) If possible the Main Master library may be in a standard Neutral format (for example *.PFP), a Free/licensed (less expensive) software program for developing footprints in that format can be provided. so that everyone irrespective of the EDA software they use, can use this tool to create the foot prints in the neutral format & upload into the main server, where it can be checked for accuracy & standards required.
2) The web based "vending machine" must be capable of exporting the required footprint in any software format needed.
3) If the standard neutral format is implemented & recognised by the IPC, i am sure all the EDA softwares will make their software capable of importing the std format.
4) Also many manufacturers will begin to offer the Footprints for their components in the std format. (as they offer step files for mechanical parts)
Also thank you for reopening the pcb libraries forum!!!
Best Regards,
Ramnec.
Hi Ramnec, Still alive if not exactly kicking.
Marce
Hello Ramnec,
you mention the standard *.PFP.
My question is, I have never heard of this standard format and I would like to ask you if you know where to get hold of more information about it.
The second more general question is: Is there a recognized standard for library and symbol creation I mean, the standard should include the schematic symbol as well as the geometry and pads. I would guess that both could be either merged together or handled separately.
Best regards
Matija
Hi Marce,
Fine, Glad to see you again. you may register in the pcb libraries also...
Hi Milostnik,
I was suggesting for new footprint software format *.PFP
was just my personal suggestion.
so far as i know, there is no neutral format for the pcb footprints, but if it is developed it would be of good benefit.
for standards, For PCB footprint creation we have got the IPC 7351B. you may refer to Tom Blogs for more info about it.
you can also refer to this link http://landpatterns.ipc.org/default.asp
also refer to attached document.
Hi Tom,
Glad to see you again
I am looking forward to your new product to be released. I am not in the USA so I can not register the IPC APEX/EXPO 2012.
To Ramnec,
After a long vacation I come back again![]()
Thanks,
Nightwish
IPC APEX is now over. The "Designer's Day" event had the largest crowd of PCB designers than all previous shows.
I announced the POD (Parts On Demand) project.
Here is my press interview - http://realtimewith.com/pages/show.cgi?rtwsid=53
I attached my Power Point presentation which includes the upcoming updates for the IPC-7351C standard.
Tom
