I am manually designing a complex flex circuit. Many curves, very large, very tedious, very frustrating (up to this point).
I am manullly routing in Blaze. I have the trace where I want it. When it completes - it minimizes and ruins
10 - 15 minutes of work.
Probably an easy question - I thought I thought of everything...
How do I route these traces and have them stay how I routed them instead of "minimizing" and/or
automatically "centering or hugging" when the route completes?
Thanks, Patrick
Hello Patrick,
In PADS Router go to Options, select Routing/General and make sure you have NO check mark in "Smooth trace on complete'.
Also check Follow route command that was introduced in PADS 9.4 release. In PADS Router start routing, RMB, select Follow from pull down, click next to what you want to follow and just move your mouse.

Hi Yan,
Thanks for the info. The "Follow" mode seems to work pretty well.
Is there a way to "Follow" something in an "Autoroute" mode after I click the desired unroute?
This seems to work pretty well dynamically but if there was a way automagicallyfollow a pattern
it would be really nice. See PDF of flex card to get the idea of what I am trying to accomplish.
THe "traces shown were drawn in Autocad, this is not a PADS database - but you can see what needs to be routed.
The traces need to start at the 50 pin ZIF location and curve around the outline to various destinations as shown.
Also, when I tried to "follow" the board outline for my first trace, it didn't seem to go so well - but it "follows" traces pretty well.
Thanks!
Patrick
Also, be sure to check the "Protect traces and vias when creating segments" box on the Routing menu.
Follow command is only available for Interactive Routing only. Please seams a picture of the Follow not following Board Outline so well example. Make sure you have Customer Support Department involved. They will determine if we need to enhance Follow command for Board Outline part. I had pretty good success following very complex Outlines and even Keepouts comingled with it.

Okay. I will retry following the outline. Perhaps I didn't have all the correct swtiches set or some other OP_ERROR.
Thanks for your help. If I still have problems I will start a ticket and send database.
Yan, Is there an on-line tutorial or How-To video for the Follow command available on the Mentor support website?
Hello,
It will be on Mentor YouTube chanel next month with additional videos. Meantime I am posting on Mentor FTP site. It reamin there for 3 days.

Yan,
Once I got everything situated correctly the "follow" mode echoed my complex board outline
with no problems, adhering to spacing rules and matching the shape exactly.
Thanks again,
Patrick
