How to install a PADS license for my machine or hardware key (Mobile Compute) (video)

    Step-by-step instructions:

     

    Refer to the Managing Mentor Graphics Software manual for guidance, or follow the steps below.

     

     

    1. License file has been downloaded

     

    Save the license file (from download or email) to the computer's hard drive. Take note of the location. If you don't have a copy of the license file, continue to step 2, and you will be provided a link to download the license file later (step 4).

    For example: The file is called Site_2811.txt and has been saved to the Desktop as in the screen-shot below (click to enlarge).

    2. Start Menu location of "Install License File" program

     

    Run the Install License File shortcut available inside the PADS Licensing Assistance area:

     

    Start > All Programs > Mentor Graphics SDD > PADS Licensing Assistance > Install License File

    3. "Choose Licensing Configuration" dialog

     

    Select the Mobile Compute (Node-locked) licensing radio button and click Next >>

     

    Note: Refer to Type of Licenses for the difference between Mobile Compute and the other license types

    4. "Enter License File" dialog

     

    When the Enter License File dialog appears, click Browse... to navigate to the license file.

    If you don't have a copy of your license file, click the Download License File hyperlink. This takes you to the following web-page on SupportNet where you can download your Site's entire license file (excluding temporary/evaluation licenses) to your computer.

    5. Browse to the license file dialog

     

    Select the license file and click the Open button

    6. "License File Path" field populated

     

    The path to the license file will appear in the License File Path: field. Click the Next>> button to continue with the installation of this license file.

    7. "Hardware Key Driver Installation" dialog (may not appear)

     

    If you are presented with a Hardware Key Driver Installation dialog, and you will be using a hardware key for your licensing, accept the default selections and click OK for the necessary driver(s) to be loaded. Otherwise, you may click SKIP to bypass any hardware key driver installations and continue.

    • If you are installing the Aladdin (USB Key) driver, the installation will appear to run twice, and will require you to to click through two OK dialogs. This is because it performs an uninstall (in case an incompatible version exists) and then a fresh installation. See the following two screen-shots (click to enlarge) for the dialogs/prompts you can expect to see.
    • The Sentinel (parallel port) driver does not require any user interaction.

    8.When a problem is detected

     

    If you come upon a Mobile Compute (Node-locked) license issues [L105] prompt (as seen below), it means there was a problem with the license file installation. Click the Help button to refer to the troubleshooting PDF for a table of error codes and messages, and tips on how to resolve. Note: For an online version of the table of error codes and messages, refer to the Appendix A Troubleshooting chapter in the Managing Mentor Graphics Systems Software manual.

    9. "Target License Exists" prompt (may not appear)

     

    PADS9.3 (and newer) releases install the Mobile Compute (Node-locked) licenses to the default location of C:\MentorGraphics\license_files\license.txt. If a license file already exists at this location you will receive the prompt below.

    Click REPLACE if you have a complete license file to install (perhaps downloaded from SupportNet, which includes all licenses for the Site minus evaluation and temporary licenses).

    Click APPEND to add additional licenses to the existing file (perhaps they are optional/add-on licenses, only).

    10. "Licensing Configuration Complete" dialog

     

    Once the Mobile Compute (Node-locked) license file installation is complete, the following dialog will appear, and should contain a path to the newly installed license file (default location of C:\MentorGraphics\license_files\license.txt).

    Click the Done button to exit the license installation program. Your licenses should now be available for immediate use. Refer to Generating a Run-time Diagnostic Report with the Mentor License Utility if the licensing is failing (to generate a diagnostic report for Customer Support).

    Click the Licensing button if you would like to install an additional licensing configuration (Mobile Compute license or a Network/Floating port@host).

    PADS9.2.1 and older releases:

    3. Select the Nodelocked using Hardware key or Ethernet radio button and click Next >>

    4. Click Browse... and navigate to the location of the license file. Click on the file to highlight and click Open to proceed.

    5. Click Next>>

    6. If a prior license has been installed the Choose License Options dialog appears asking whether to add to the existing license or replace. Choose the appropriate action and click Next >> to continue.
