SoftMEMS MEMS Pro Installation Procedure (for v9.0 and higher)

Version 3

This procedure is only for installation of FlexNet versions of SoftMEMS MEMS Pro v9.0 and higher.  If you are running older (v8.2 or lower) SoftMEMS versions where the Mentor license was on Sentinel (you received a TLU license file rather than a TXT license file), this installation procedure does not apply.

The registered user of the product will receive an email from Mentor Graphics with an attachment that contains the required authorization codes or license files.  For SoftMEMS products there will be two files; The Mentor license will be a .TXT file, and the SoftMEMS license will be a .DAT file.  Every purchase and product update will receive this email. Perform the following steps to install the tools and license:

Setup of SoftMEMS MEMS Pro requires the following items, provided by Mentor Graphics:

    • USB dongle [optional]. This is a small device, similar to a flash drive that attaches to the USB port on your computer. Alternative to a USB dongle, licenses may be tied to the PC MAC Address instead of a USB dongle.
    • SoftMEMS License file (.DAT extension).  This file should have been sent to you or Mentor Graphics main contact for your site as an e-mail attachment.
    • Mentor License file (.TXT extension).  This file should have been sent to you or Mentor Graphics main contact for your site as an e-mail attachment.
    • A DVD [optional] of SoftMEMS MEMS Pro v9.0 or higher or a downloaded zipped file of the software.

Note: If you do not have these, please contact technical support by submitting an SR to request what you are missing.  Once you have all of the items above, continue with the following steps.

First, you need to determine if you own mobile compute or floating licensing.  The package you purchased will be one of the two types.  If you are unsure, open the SoftMEMS license file (.DAT) file you were provided with a text editor and look at the first line in the file.  If it says SERVER, you are running Floating licenses, if does not say SERVER and says FEATURE only, then you are running Mobile Compute licenses.

    Mobile Compute Licensing:

Mobile Compute Software Installation (also refer to SoftMEMS MEMS Pro Quick Tool Installation (for v9.0 and higher) )

    1. If you have the DVD, insert the DVD into your computer and the installer will auto start. If you have a zipped download file, please unzip it to a temporary directory on your hard drive. It is important that you must fully unzip it first before running the installation. Otherwise, it will not work.
    2. Right-click on the setup.exe and choose Run as administrator.
    3. In the MEMS Pro InstallShield Wizard select Next followed by Next again to get to the License Agreement
