Will moving a cell to a different partition affect users?

    David_S Intermediate

      All,

My current library only has 2 partitions for "part" cells, smd_geoms and th_geoms.  This is starting to make finding parts a little slow, and I'd like to add a bunch of partitions, and move the cells into those.

Will this affect old, current or updating designs?????   (I KNOW this affects symbols, but those are OK for now)

          Hi David,

this will affect you rold designs, becaouse the library partition search order you have set inside Expedition is no longer true.

You have to est it up in every design again.

          regards,

          Andreas

I finally had time to try this out (didn't think I'd have time when I posted), and at least with my setup (7.9.1, single search scheme, and no user-modified) I can move cells to new partitions and the old designs see this new partition and changes made to cells in it.

            I did the following:

            1. Created a BGA partition

            2. Added a few parts that used BGAs to my designs

            3. Placed cells on PCB.

            4. Move cell location.

            5. Changed those BGAs in the library.  (added some lines on the assembly layer)

            6. Went into the design and used "Project Integration..." to "Update local library with newer Central Library data".

            7. All my changes came thru!
