flexnet lmhostid returning both wired and wireless network adapters - linux

      Hi,

I am trying to get the licensing working on my linux laptop that contains both a wired and wireless

when I try to launch the license server by hand, I get this error:

22:37:37 (mgcld) Invalid license key (inconsistent authentication code)

22:37:37 (lmgrd) mgcld daemon found no features.  Please correct

How can I tell license software only to consider one of the two network interfaces -

lmhostid - Copyright (c) 1989-2013 Flexera Software LLC. All Rights Reserved.

The FlexNet host ID of this machine is ""5cf9dd6e7a5f a01d48aa518a""

Only use ONE from the list of hostids.

      Thanks,

          Hello Benjamin,

There are two general aspects to your question (and one specific to you):

          Two interfaces:

If your machine has two interfaces (5cf9dd6e7a5f and a01d48aa518a in the example above) then you can use either.  I normally recommend to use the wired interface in case "wireless" gets turned off.

          Editing your license file:

You cannot change the MacAddress in the SERVER line of your license file.  If the license was created (by Mentor) for a MacAddress, then that must be used in your license file.  The error message above (Invalid license key) indicates that the INCREMENT line is being used in a license file whose SERVER details are not what is expected.

          Finally, your specific problem:

This is a classic example of editing your license file.  Your license file was created for a triple redundant server setup (three servers acting together to give a level of redundancy).  That license can then only be used with all three SERVER lines, and you will need to start at least two of the license servers before it will work.

Using a laptop as one of a triple redundant server setup does not sound like a good idea to me; license servers should be stable machines.  If you need to move your licenses to a different server / set of servers, please contact your account team.

          Regards,

          David

Apologies - I replied to "Benjamin" your user name, rather than "Doug".  Having a family name which can also be a first name myself, I should know better!

              Hello David,

Thank you very much for the answer. I understand now how licensing works. I will contact my support

team to see if I can create an independent license file for the laptop and move the license file to redundant

              servers.

              Cheers,
