What is a good way to back-up Designs in VeSys 2.0?
Right now I export the design as .XML-file and give the a name with date.
Is that ok?
Can I open that file on another PC to continue working?
That is a good question. I am no expert on VeSys 2.0 but it is datacentric and so all data is stored in a database, it is normally best to have the database located on a server so that everyone can work on the same projects.
So to expand your question a little further it would be useful to know if there is a method where the whole database can be copied/backed up? I appreciate that most medium/larger companies the fact that it is on the server means the data is backed up.
You can automatically back up you designs using premigrate commands or else manually use premigrate commands to back up your data. These commands can be set in your machine to be started automatically. As Joel has mentioned that VeSys 2.0 is a datacentric design solution and all the data is stored in the database. All the data must be present on the server and different people could access the server.
The following are the commands that needs to be set on your machine to start automaticall after a regular interval of say 24 hours:
In fact the following Best Practice document shows this process in great detail and explains how and why to use PreMigrate to get the best out of it.
I'm trying to figure out how to best doing backups, but the link doesn't work for me, I get a 404 error.
I found another document (http://communities.mentor.com/docs/DOC-1630) when searching, but that seems to be a different method.
At the moment I have everything installed locally on a laptop, and the where the embedded db is located is not automatically backed up by our system (only My documents).
Is it possible to move the db?
If I could move it to "My Documents" it would be automatically be backed up when I log out or turn off the computer together with everything else (I guess I have to turn off the Vesys manager before).
How do you restore from "vesyspremigrate"?
Is there any plan to make a tool for scheduling backups (for us who is not command prompt gurus)?
I have setup a Windows Scheduled Task which uses vesyspremigrate.exe to backup my database. vesysmigrate.exe, which has the same command line options as vesyspremigrate.exe, can be used to import.
PS I have noticed that the links on this thread are broken... when you click on http://communities.mentor.com/docs/DOC-1630 it takes you to http://communities.mentor.com/docs/DOC-1630 which is invalid, you may need to fix this in the address bar of your web browser.
I also cannot access any of the documents you recommended it seems the link is broken.
Both the links above are textually correct (ie the displayed text is correct), but the actual link is incorrect.
The correct links are:How-To: Migrate an Embedded Database and How-To: Back Up an Embedded Database
