So, let´s say we have 150 resistors in a schematic with the same Part Number of the Databook and we want to change these resistors to another Part Number of the Databook.
Which is the fastest way to do this operation?
here's my way to replace one part number with another:
Disclaimer: I don't take responsibility if your project crashes or something unintended happens. So be sure to create a backup-copy before you follow the instructions below.
1) Edit --> Find and Replace Text (or simply "Ctrl + H"
2) Select Tab "Replace"; in the "Look For" -section, select "Properties only". Then you select the Property you want to change (in my case, it is "DEVICE"), and enter the Partnumbers according to your needs. You can change the scope of the replacement, e.g. "Project" or "Sheet" or "Board".
By now, only the Property ("DEVICE") has changed but in all Parts; in order to update all other properties to match, run a hierarchical verification (as below).
3) Preparations to run a hierarchical Verification: (only to be set up once)
a) I guess, you only have one configuration file for your PADS-databook. Find that file and create a copy named "xxx_Update.dbc" (replace xxx with YourFileName); in my view it's the best to keep it in the same folder.
b) Open Databook and perform a Right Mouse Button Klick next to the "Library" Field
c) select "Open" and find the new created "xxx_Update.dbc"-File. Open that file.
d) Again, perform a RMB-Klick next to the "Library" Field; this time select "Edit configuration"
e) Your configuration should look something like below; you have an "Unique ID" (in my case it's "DEVICE") and lots of other properties. Remove all ticks in the column "Load" except for your "Unique ID" or the property you replaced in step 2.
Now your configuration should look like this:
f) like shown before, RMB next to he "Library" Field; this time select "Save".
4) Run a hierarchical Verification:
a) select the icon "Verify all Components in the current design" as shown below.
(This might take some time, so don't worry when nothing happens for a while)
b) select the Icon "Update all Unique Matches" as shown below
(Again, this can take some time)
c) select the Icon "Update Design" as shown below
(And once again, get some coffee, get a smoke, and don't worry.)
Now all properties should be updated, so take a look on several of the parts you updated to verify. I hope this helps you out.
did this solve your problem? If so, it'd be kind to mark the answer as helpfull or your question as answered.
Thanks and kind regards,
Thanks Georg, I´ll check it and give feedback as soon as possible.
This is the way I do it:
1) Select all the parts to be changed
2) Click on the new part in DataBook
3) Click on "Annotate properties to selected components"
(this must be enabled in databook>configure>properties>Selected Component Annotation)
"Load into databook" is another way to do it....
Hope it helps….
