# Area Calculation  using caliber SVRF

Hi all

We are working on layout and we are in need to find out the area of the polygon.

In SVRF we are having a comman like WITH WIDTH met1 >0.3 (this is eg. command)

In the same way its possible to find out the area also ?

Else, Pleaes suggest the alternate way to find the area of the polygon ?

Thanks

Chin

Hi Chin,

I would be interested to know if this TechNote helps:

How can Calibre identify a polygon by the size when a range is involved?

Hi chris

Thanks it worked. But like to print the area. Do u have any idea how to do it ?

Thanks

Hi Chris

Just a clarification in AREA command !!!

As you suggested used the following command.

AREA Li1 > 10

The above command is working and its highlighting the some polygons' in the layout. But what does the 10 indicates with respect to random polygon shape.

Still precisily in what way its taking the area for random polygon ?

This will help me to build some logic on the scripting.

Thanks

Hi Chin,

I think you ask a good question because some functions consider the "extent" of random shaped polygons, while other functions consider just the exact area of the polygons. The AREA operation you're using in this example calculates the actual area of the randomly shaped polygons after the input is merged. For instance, if you had one rectangular shape that was 2u wide and 10u tall, and that was touching another rectangular shape that was 15u wide and 3u tall, so that together they formed an "L" shaped polygon, the total area of the final shape would be 65.

Does that agree with your expectations?

Hi Chris

1)In the case of rectangular its fine to calculate the resistance. But in the case of above pic how to find some irregular shapes.

2) I need the vaule as a Eg:65 in your case for processing later. How to read a vaule or store in a variable ?

Thanks

Hi Chin,

Here's a link to a TechNote that shows one way to print polygon areas. It doesn't address the question of calculating the resistance but it answers an earlier question you had about printing the areas of the polygons.

## Print the area of polygons to a file using Calibre nmDRC

Hope it helps!
