Our IT team has locked down our last XP machine and I need to support a few older designs. Is anybody using v2005 on Windows7? Has anybody tried the XP compatability mode? Thanks for your help..
Yes this is possible. I had 2005SP3 installed along with 7.9.2 and almost everything worked just fine. It's been a while since I've used it now but if memory serves the only time that Expedition would be unstable and crash was if you ran DRC's with the display control open, other than that, no issues. For the schematic side we were using Design Capture so I can't speak for how well Dx works, Design Capture didn't have any issues though. XP Compatibility Mode was only required for configurator.exe to register the 2005 version, once registered it would function. I would have to look back at my installations and see exactly what I did to provide more information and don't have those with me at the moment, if what I have listed isn't enough to go on let me know and I'll do some digging when I get a chance.
A little is coming back now, it was running Forward Annotation with the Display Control open that would cause it to crash every time. Other than that It was pretty stable.
Thanks Travis - If anything else comes to mind, please let me know. I guess I'll be making backups on a regular basis.
you can install a Virtual machine like VM- ware.
So you can handle Different Versionen or Different Systems.
I have v2005.SP3 installed and running on Windows 7. You have to install v7.9.x first, and then you can install 2005. It does give some errors during the install and configuration, but basically functions as desired.
