How to calculate the actual copper area of individual planes shapes?

Question asked by jos.van.gemert on Mar 10, 2015

There are several methods to gather plane information (e.g. Analysis > Calculate Copper Area), but none of them shows the actual copper area per separate plane shape on a layer. This is the XY area minus the voids in the plane. Is there any way to accomplish that?

A use case where the required option is very useful:

A voltage regulator needs cooling which has to be done with a copper area of a certain minimum surface. To have the occupied area as small as possible, you should be able to calculate the effective copper area.
