Physical layouts of PCBs and IC packages typically require multiple layers of signal interconnect and power planes for implementation. Oftentimes, the physical arrangement of signal and power-plane metal shapes results in electrical performance degradation. Signal/power integrity design flaws, such as electromagnetic interference (EMI), electromagnetic (EM) coupling, signal loss, path impedance mismatch, and DC power drop, are commonly related to specific geometric layout patterns contained in the layout. HyperLynx DRC quickly identifies harmful layout patterns and assesses their degree of severity, guiding designers to locations where more-thorough SI/PI/3D EM simulations should be considered.
