    Modelsim License Server

    tetravue

We purchased Modelsim DE for our simulation purposes, it is tied to the machine's MAC address.  We have it running from time to time but every time it takes an hour of messing around to figure out how to get the license server started.  What I really need to know, is what is the EASIEST way to make sure the server is up, and running, and if it isn't, what commands / steps do I need to take.

Here is what Modelsim Says :

      # ** License Issue: License request for msimpevsimvlog feature failed

      # ** License Issue: Cannot connect to license server system. (C:\License\Modelsim_DE.dat)

      # ** License Issue: The desired vendor daemon is down. (1717@LAPTOP-5JLNGEPC)

      # ** License Issue: No such feature exists. (C:\License\1-G41W2V_License.dat)

      # ** License Issue: No such feature exists. (C:\License\TSE_License.dat)

      # ** License Issue: Cannot find license file. (C:\flexlm\license.dat)

      # ** Error: Failure to obtain a Verilog simulation license. Unable to checkout 'msimpevsimvlog' license feature.

      # Error loading design

NOTE : We have several different licenses for other tools, the only one that I'm concerned about at this time is in the Modelsim_DE.dat file, all the other licenses are for the Alteral Tools and IPs, they never have a problem.

Using the LMTools, it seems like the license server is up (the same machine the tools are unning on).

          David,

          This is a problem:

          1717@put_server_name_here

You need to make sure you edit the license file and replace the field containing "put_server_name_here" with the actual hostname of your server. Clean up the MGLS_LICENSE_FILE or LM_LICENSE_FILE variables if they contain any invalid server names.

To quickly check if the server is up, run C:\MentorGraphics\Licensing\lmutil lmstat. Use LMTOOLS > Config Services to make sure "Use Services" and "Start Server at Power Up" are checked.

You're awesome, that seemed to do the trick..  I guess I kept getting hung up on the following which made it look like it was alive when it really wasn't.    But now it is working, hopefully this doesn't happen anymore.

            Thank you,

Now I can make progress today!
