I would like to export my PADS Maker schematic and layout files to PADS Logic or Designer and PADS Layout (full versions). I cannot find a was to export from Maker or import into Logic of Designer. Help!
the question might sound silly, but did you try opening the project from within PADS-Designer (using the "Open Project" Dialog? I would assume that this might do the job. AFAIK, Maker uses ".prj" extension too. Afterwards I would further assume that the file cannot be opend in Maker again.
Another way could be to export the PADS-Maker-Project to any of the Formats listed below (not sure if this option existis in Maker) and import this file to PADS-Designer.
As we plan to use maker for small development boards in the near future I'd be very keen on getting feedback, whether any of my suggestions worked.
Thanks for the tip, I was able to open the schematic with PADS-Designer, however it complained about a missing file. It did get a warning that the file would not be able to be opened in Maker again.
Then when I tried to export to PADS-Layout, I get an error message that it cannot find the pcb configuration file.
That file does not exist in the PADS-Maker directory.
However, I can open the PADS-Maker pcb file in PADS-Layout with the option to import a PADS-Maker file, that seams to be OK (so far).
I have asked Mentor Graphics support about how to do import the schematic but don't have a answer yet. I just have a eval copy of the PADS suite for now and it expires today.
I think that Mentor Graphics will need to add a PADS-Maker import function to Logic and/or Designer as they did to Layout.
There may be a way to create a new project and then import the Maker file.
PADS Maker is available in a free version, if you want to experiment.
the "missing" file isn't really missing, it is just not mentioned in the prj-file (or the pointer is wrong). You can try the following:
Most files contained in project directory are plain text, so you can open and change them using whatever texteditor you like. I hope this helps,
Thanks for the info. My trial license for PADS has expired, but I hope to get another one and check this out before purchasing.
I previously did some schematics in the predecessor to PADS Maker which was Designer Schematic. Those files were imported into PADS VX.1 xDX Designer and Layout by a layout engineer at my board house. There is a Mentor Graphics AppNote on doing this, which I have attached.
I have some old projects in Designer which grew too big for the standard version, I had to purchase the pro version for $1200/yr and that license has expired. So I may be useful to have this procedure in the future. Also it may apply to PADS Maker.
I will try your procedure as soon as I can.
