Why do I get 'X' when flooding copper with Thermal Relief

I am using PADS 2.6 and when I went to flood the ground plane the tool puts up a bunch of white 'X' marks on many of my ground pads, including ground vias.

What does this 'X' signify?

Is it a floating ground net? I can't remove the 'X' from view even if I turn off all of the 'colors' layers

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to rectify this?

I've researched and found a few references but they weren't helpful:

    1. I selected the pin and removed the relief and this removed the 'X' but doesn't solve my problem of understanding what the 'X' denotes

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!
