Yep, that's a reincarnation of "Universal PCB Library" idea on another technocal level, which is great. I support it 100%
The promise of cloud computing would be to reduce CAD administrative overhead, as well as offloading capital purchases (storage and cpu) - so long as the internet bandwidth is there and sufficient for interactive performance.
I think the "universal PCB library" is not especially enabled by cloud computing, and in the past has been limited by issues such as guaranteed quality, custom DFM rules, and a willingness to contribute parts or to pay someone to provide them!
Altium now plan to enter Cloud-Based Solution in the EDA(See September 16 EEtimes). I think Mentor have the capabilities and have widest user bases.
May I know whether Mentor is providing cloud computing solution for their EDA softwares including Expedition & Pads?
