There may have a simple answer, but does anyone know how to share fields across multiple schematics? I have a large schematic (many pages) with many fields that I would like to use in other schematics but not sure how.
Export your schematic in ascii, and then look for "FIELDS". This will be your definition:
*FIELDS* USER FIELDS
"Drawn Date" 8/8/2011
"Checked Date" 12-1-2011
Cut and paste this section to a new text file, and then import that to your other schematic to copy your fields over.
Thank you for the response. I copied everything under "Fields", pasted and imported as you said, but when I go to add a field I still show the original selections. The new fields are not visible. Where do I find the nerwly imported fields?
With nothing selected, <right-click> and select 'Fields'. Do you see the new fields listed there? You should, so if you don't this didn't work as I expected.
If you do see the fields you'll still have to add them to the schematic wherever you want to see them (<right-click> 'Add Field') or find out where those were defined in the ASC export and import that part too.
No, they are not shown. Do I have to add them to the acutal ascii of the new schematic and them import that to PADS?
That will work.
