Graphic Issue with Expediton EE7.9.3 and before

Hello,

on our newest workstations we have used ATI FirePro V5800 Graphic Cards.

There we have seen issues in Expedition PCB with displaying traces.

All the time when we move around, the traces are displayed "bumpy".
There are small steps overall in the traces or plane outlines.

When we zoom in / out these artefacts disappear.

Has anybody seen similar issues?

Yes, we have installed the latest driver and we have seen this issue only with ATI FirePro V5800 Cards.

ATI FirePro V5700 do not show this issue.

In my opinion, the list of tested Graphic cards should be renewed ans also support som newer high end cards.

System:

EE7.9.3; WIN7 64Bit ; ATI FirePro V5800 latest driver

regards,

Andreas

Re: Graphic Issue with Expediton EE7.9.3 and before

Hello,

Thanks for the information however I have one question.  Was OpenGL enabled for the cases where you saw graphics abnormalities?

Historically we have seen more issues with the ATI products when compared to the NVIDIA. We have some newer NVIDIA hardware with the latest drivers for which we are not seeing any issues based on the 7.9.3 release. This year I plan to order some newer ATI hardware this year to validate our solution against however most of the time when we have seen issues, we find these to be specific to ATI’s graphics drivers and all we can do is send the bug to ATI about their driver API and wait.

It might be useful in the communities to have a thread where customers post which hardware / drivers they are successfully using with Expedition PCB to help with direction when customers want to purchase graphics hardware.  Also, it will allow us to see what hardware our customers are using for future testing.

Re: Graphic Issue with Expediton EE7.9.3 and before

Hi, We do not see the bumpy trace outline when use EE7.9.3 on nVidia Quadro fx2800m, nVidia Quadro FX 1600M. Will deploy more nVidia Quadro 3000M & 4000 graphics.

Would like to see Mentor providing more details on hardware qualifications (especially RAM and Graphics Card), and other companies' experience on hardware selections, a thread is a good idea. For EE7.9.3, Mentor suggested “for Windows 64-bit as much RAM as you can get” – kind vague, very hard to implement.

Thanks!

Ping

Hello,

We will start up a new area specific to Graphics Hardware recommendations allowing customers to collaborate on the good and bad related to specific hardware and drivers.  Hope to have something going in the next few weeks.

Re: Graphic Issue with Expediton EE7.9.3 and before

We are using OpenText Exceed and Exceed onDemand products to X Window into our Linux version of the EE 7.9.2 and EE 7.9.3.  Does anyone out there use these similar configurations?

With OpenText Exceed, the stroke in Expedition PCB doesn't catch up with the mouse when we draw an "L" quickly to open "Display Control".  However, it's better with Exceed onDemand.

With Exceed onDemand, the panning doesn't stop panning in Expedition PCB after we stop pressing the right mouse button.  It is almost like the mouse is too sensitive.

Any advice?

We use EoD in the same way, connect from windows to Linux.

I have seen what you describe with not stopping panning.

You may want to contact OpenText about this, they gave us a

solution that not only solved that but also introduced a speedup in graphics.

Thanks for your reply.  I'll contact OpenText and will let you know how that goes.

Hi Taco - I was wondering if you could find out your Incident# that you logged with OpenText and email me at jee@raytheon.com?  The OpenText vendor was trying to search their database to see what they did to help you and want to see if that would help me as well.  Really appreciate your assistance in advance!!
