Expedition to PADS migration

Is it possible to migrate certain designs from Expedtion to PADS. I know Expedtion has many additional features which are not availabe in PADS but what about simple layouts? Is it possible to migrate them from Expedition to PADS ?

Yes

translators are available for Expedition to PADS

the translators can be installed with the PADS CD

@sravan thanks for your reply.

 

The translators that I have found with the installation CD is the PADS->Expedition but I want the reverse. Is it possible if in a layout features common to Expedition and PADS are used,

Hi Mirza

 

the expedition to PADS Layout requires a license which is free

 

you can contact ur local distributor at http://www.mentor.com/company/worldwide_distributors/

Hi Sravan,

 

thnx for your help. I have asked my local vendor to provide me with a translator. Also, could you please help me in finding out a suitable translator for Design Capture to Dxdesigner ?

 

I believe(if I am not wrong), is DC2DX the correct translator for the above job ?

If you're on maintenance, you should be able to find what you need on http://supportnet.mentor.com/reference/other-info/Migrate-DC-EE-to-DxD-EE.cfm.

 

Other good starting points -- for anyone working on migrations and translations -- are the Migration Planning Guides and Dx/PADS translators pages on SupportNet.

I downloaded a PADS to Expedition translator license and I tried importing .pcb files into PADS. However I got the following errors..

 

[I] Reading Pad Stacks...

[I] Reading Cells...

[I] Reading Part Numbers...

[I] Reading Job Prefernces...

[I] Reading Net Classes...

[I] Reading Layout...

[I] Translating data...

[W] All coincident Pad Entry rules are translated to Default Rules level

[W] Discriminate Pad Entry rules found, and the rules were not translated.

[W] Route grid is not set. Primary part grid is used for setting design grid.

[E] iCDB failed. Can't read configuration.

[I] Completed

 

 

Any ideas how I can overcome them?

Hello,

 

Some of the messages are warnings, and the data that is incompatable is being given default rules.

 

Did you check the compatibality of the versions you are translating? Did you get any data after the translation?

 

You may need to file an SR on this one...

Hi All,

 

I am trying to translate a board from Expedition to PADS. I am pleased to say that in the past, I was able to import data from Expedtion into Pads, however, the board I am currently working on is a complex one, which needs to be translated. I tried importing the data but I get warnings mostly about invalid characters and an error about CES database. Is it possible to avoid or eliminiate it ?

I haven't experences about the translation from ExpedtionPCB to Pads, but I think you can try to make CES database disable(openning .prj file using notepad editor, find  ' useCES "1" ' and change it to ' useCES "0" ' ,save it and re-run the traslation.

Thnx 4 ur reply, i checked, but my useCES is already 0. Any other reasons which can trigger such error
