How to count contacts (or initial polygons, or geometries) in a layout

    Total number of geometries of a layer before merge is in the transcript.

     

    Flat DRC transcript (DRC-F):

    In DRC-F transcript, the second and last figures are the number of geometries.

     

     

    Hierarchical DRC Transcript (DRC-H):

    In DRC-H transcript, the first and second figures are count of "INITIAL GEOMETRIES". In this example, "mylayer" has 239 polygons before being merged. That number is smaller than the estimated flat count of (541) because the number 239 represents the "hierarchical count" where polygons in a repeated cell are only counted once, regardless how many times the cell may be repeated.

     

    The hierarchical count of 192 for the "final geometries" is smaller than the original hierarchical count of 239 because there are fewer final (though likely more complex in nature) polygons after being merged. The final number for estimated flat count of (490) is smaller than the original (541) as a result of merging as well.
