Since I found a workaround to the previous problem (just open DxDesigner before the link),
I have been working entering a rather large hierarchical design.
Now when try to run the PCB interface I get a viewbase error saying:
"viewbase: Error 286: Error - Expecting component name. Found VCC in MAIN_LIMITER_1.1"
"MAIN_LIMITER_1.1" is a block name in my design.
I have checked the symbols and blocks' names for any mismatch, but they all seem OK.
Have any of you seen this before?
Not enough of a Dx user but if it is a missmatch in name on ething that can ge you that most miss is an accidental "space" at end of name, or even in beginning of a name.
I have checked again and again, but the names are OK
Is there a VCC inside the block that is not declared correctly as a global signla/symbol? Use Find to find any occurrences of VCC and report back.
No there is no such problem, but I thought of something else:
Most of the modules in my hierarchical design are in the modules area, except one that I used to make a separate board, so it is in the board area.
During the design entry I have no problem with this.
I can push from the hierarchical symbol and access the schematic anytime, edit it etc.
But maybe this causes the viewbase to lose it.
Tomorrow I will try to delete the separate board, so I will get the schematic in the modules and I will report.
(I am writing this from home, so I do not have access right now).
Most Mentor Graphics errors are doublets and many are triplets. The group may include an "Error" line and a "Note" line or 2. Is there any more info around this error?
Well, there was no other message.
During an online discussion with the Mentor representative he suggested to make a copy of the block with another name and replace it in the top level.
This worked, so end of panic.
We spent over two hours looking at various parameters, tool settings, libraries, properties of components etc but I cannot tell what exactly caused the problem in the first place.
Thank you all very much for your answers. I hope that this solution will help if anybody encounters such a problem again.
