Is Mentor ready for Windows 10?

    Wim Creyghton

Microsoft announced Windows 10 definitely in the summer, but possibly late July 2015.

Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs will get direct upgrade to Windows 10.

Are all Mentor tools at that time ready for Windows 10?

What is Mentors road path to Windows 10?

This morning we got the Microsoft icon for updating making a reservation for Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10.

          We are now on VX1.1.

Mentor says, VX1.1 is stable on Windows 8.1, but is VX.1.1 stable on Windows 10?

Until now no reaction from Mentor about this issue.

Windows 10 can now be installed in my system.

Is VX.1.1 ready for Windows 10?

Since the first question, 4 months ago, no reaction from Mentor

If I look in the "Xpedition Enterprise System Requirements Datasheet" on the Mentor site, I see this:

No Windows 8, 8.1 or 10 support is mentioned!!

When attending the PCB Forum, we saw the "Adopting X-ENTP VX.1" sheet which shows:

But the big question is now.

Can VX.1.1 installed on a Windows 10 system without any problems?

We are actively testing VX.1.2 on Windows 10 and assuming we don't find any issues it will be officially supported then. Windows 8.1 was officially supported with VX.1.1.

Personally I've only found some really old legacy software that didn't work on my home PC after the upgrade, and even then with enough digging I got it to work, so I would not expect to find issues with more modern software. Having said that, before Mentor officially supports Windows 10 it is a case of caveat emptor.

                Thanks for the info.

I hope that more people, who are using VX.1.1 on Windows 10, will share their findings.

I have tried PADS VX.1.1 on Win10, and cannot get licensing to work.  There is an error during license installation complaining about the driver.

PADS will support Windows 10 in VX.1.2, currently scheduled for release at the end of November.

                      Dear all,

                      I am very desperate...

I use Expedition EE7.9.5 (Update 24) on a machine with Windows 7 up last week. But now I get a new machine with Windows 10 and I have make the experience, that EE7.9.5 especially ExpeditionPCB is not able to work on that machine...

Furthermore our company canceled the support contract due to the high cost. So the last version of Xpedition we get from Mentor ist the Version VX.1 in Dezember 2014. But due to possible bugs of this major release, we avoid the installation of this release.

So my question is, what can you recommend at my position. Should I install Windows 7 and EE7.9.5 knowing the Support of Windows 7 ends in 2020?

Or should I install VX.1 on my Windows 10 machine in the hope there are no bigger problems during the use of the main function of Expedition?

Do anybody know which bugs are presented on VX.1?

At moment, it seems there is no intention of reentry into the support contract due to the high cost. Quite the reverse! They thinking about changing to an alternative PCB System

This week we switched to Windows 10 and until now I don't see any problems with our VX.1.1. update 2 systems.

We have used VX.1.0 and i.m.o. there were no bigger problems during the use of the main function of Expedition.

Like you know, every version update has its own small bugs and annoyings but we can live with that.

Thank you very much for your replay.

in the meantime, we could detect that our ERP-system proAlpha affects the function of mentor graphics.

During the installation-process of proAlpha, the library-file "xerces-c_2_7.dll" (stored at ..//Windows/SysWOW64) is exchanged with a file with same version identifier but different content. Therefore Expedition crashes after invoking. The solution is to exchange this library-file with the file which is provided by MentorGraphics. After this, both systems works well without any limitations.

Since we have the computer fully reinstalled, we have assumed that windows 10 is the reason... but this is not the case.
