I have a step file need to import in to the Xpedition layout file. Anyone help me how to import the step file into the Xpedition layout.
if you say that you have a step to import into layout, I assume that you have a model of a component that you would like to import into Layout using the 3D functionalty?
Assuming this is what you want, the procedure is simple. with the 3d open, select the component and use 3D-Mdels-Import
Hello Mr Milostnik
I used ultralibrarian(www.ultralibrarian.com) to create a 3D model file(*.step) for one device, but when I import this *.step file as what you did above. there was a error happened, see below for detail.
so how could I do ?

not all models will be ok for the Mentor tools.
At first glance the "Entities in shell are not connected" seems to indicate that you have open faces and other rounding errors.
There are two ways:
Mentor recommends the both checks.
You can contact support with your model.
Hope this helps
I am unable to see the knowledge-base tab in supportnet. Where it is located? Please share the screenshot for better understanding.
Do you have a valid maintenance agreement?
If you do not have a valid maintenance agreement, you may be unable to see the pages.
Did you login on the support center main page first http://support.mentor.com/
The image on the right hand side with a tick, shows you that you are logged in.
You should be able to see your product listed.
After that following the first link I get this:
I also encountered this problem on several occasions. The fastest way to fix this is to load the model in MCAD software and export it again to a new step file. Problem gone.
Thanks for your suggestion!
I want to try your solution but let me crash news is that I can not open my any project.
"Unable to open icdb connection" was displayed.
Yesterday I tried several ways, which were searched on internet, but it's sadly.
it is lucky that I just want to learn Xpedition, those projects are not real projects.
I think it is big potential risk for the users, once this error happened,
users can not open the previous projects, I also can not find the individual schematic file to copy then to the new project.
In most case, this error pops up when the software did not close the design properly due to a crash.
There are two ways to fix this.
- the "Quick and Dirty" option i always try is to delete the info that Xpedition uses to connect to an ICDB. If the design is closed properly this file will be absent. Make sure that the design is not open and delete it.
The file is named sAddress.adr, you can find it at <Project>/database/cdbsvr
- The "Nice and Clean" way is to use the "ICDB Project Backup". You can find this at system tools folder in your Mentor menu items. Open the design and run a repair.
Thanks for your reply!
I can understand that the project which I did not close properly can not be opened,
but the projects were created long before also can not be opened, the some error pops up.
this is what shock me, that means once this error occured, all the projects can not be opened again, not only one project was influenced.
That is a very nasty situation. I think the wise thing to do is to contact Mentor Support for this. Sounds like a serious problem.
What you might try is doing a clean install on one machine to see if that will fix the problem. We did this once for a specific user who encountered all kind of errors.
- Delete the entire Xpedition tree, by using the windows "delete" command.
- Run CCleaner (or any other registry cleaner) to clean up the registry
- Install Xpedition again.
Note that we use the "SSD_USELOCALENV=USER" variable to make sure that everything is written to the user part of the registry.
This also means that after the initial install by an administrator, the user has to run the "MGC BSD Release Switcher" to register it correctly .
And if you want i can try to open one of your designs that you can not open. Pick a small one and add it here, if that is possible.
Good luck, Charles
Thanks! for your warmly support!
the same error happened, even when I try to create a new project in DxD.
So perhaps I should have a try to reinstall, as you said.
You might try to run the "PCB Release Switcher" first. This will register the Mentor software again. Maybe this will fix your problem.
