I used to get away by creating PDFs from schematics for documentation. Now, a new customer wants the PADS schematics in DXF format. Any suggestions on how to do this will be appreciated.
You may export EDIF for the schematics, then import it into Mentor CAMCAD(RSI) tool and export out the DXF file from CAMCAD. I think the custmer wanna paste the dxf into thier word document or autocad drawing, so only you need to do is just exporting a .wmf file from Viewdraw. Autocad support importing .wmf file and exporting a .dxf file
This seems like a solution for PADS Layout not schematic capture, so can you or someone suggest how to create a dxf from PADS Logic schematic (.sch)?
There is no direct dxf method from Logic at this time. There is a workaround, however. You can print to a plotter file in HPGL. Then, using a third-party (free) solution you can convert it to a dxf format. The third-party software is called HPGL2DXF. There are several places to download it, including here:
As an aside, why would you want to write it out to DXF? You can write it out as a pdf as well.
You can Google HPGL2DXF and find it elsewhere.
Yikes! I hate responding to my own post but I realized that there is an easier "more up to date" way to do it, using plt2dxf instead of HPGL2DXF. Same concept though. Find a copy here:
Apparently plt2dxf is not compatible with Windows 7, 64bit so any others suggestions? The reason for dxf is for import to SolidWorks(SW). This is our CAD environment for 2D/3D design and much easier management from a dxf standpoint for PCB schematics. I'm running PADS 9.3 and use plot to HPGL to generate plotter files. These are imported to GC-Prevue for conversion to dxf. Problem is files are large and SW struggles to import in sufficient time, often crashes. Suggestions are appreciated.
You can create a Gerber file from Logic by going to File, Plot. Then take the Gerber file into a Gerber viewer and save it to DXF.
I've had some success with this eprint driver
How do you use E-Print for conversion to dxf. I tried the Demo and did not have much success.
I'm wondering if anyone has a solution for this problem, i need to export some schematics in DXF format and tried the plottor method but seem to be unable to generate a plotter file. It's also not possible to install the program revert to by : george_defond on windows 7, might give it a shot on a virtual machine later today.
