Creating Drawings

We currently create drill and assembly drawings by running a pen plot (HPGL) and then translating that into a DXF file and open in AUTOCAD, this gives us a true raster view with half tone fill, they look very nice. our translator has died and are looking for a different way to create the drawings and end up with the same appearence. A strait DXF file doesn't have fill. how do other people create formal drawings? what output could be used to import into AUTOCAD?
