Mentor's I/O designer
My understanding is limited to DxDesigner only.
We do not have a license for IO Designer.
From DxDesigner i select Tools -> Generate Block Symbol and it opens the Symbol editor where i move pins around
into function groups etc. The only problem is the symbol is very large and only fits onto A1 or A0 sheet.
If the symbol could be broken into parts and linked back to the block that would be excellent.
You can't break directly a FPGA block with a underlaying schematics into multiple block symbols for better positioning on the top-level schematics. However, you can create multiple blocks for a FPGA, every block have thier unique underlayihjng schematics. The packager will package mutiple blocks into one physical FPGA part. But it still have difficulites be remained:
1) the easy of pin swap in Layout phase is poor
2) generic hetero symbols for FPGA needed in central libary.
I/O desinger will provide the agility and it's a productive tool.
OK, and understood. The capability to fracture a symbol created from a block would be a nice feature.
