the variants options in the ODB++ Output form are, as you say, only for DX schematic based variants.
For DC Variant ODB++ files you will need to carry out the following in Variant Manager:
Output > CAD > Select the Variant you wish to create ODB++ file for, then Process
This will put the PCB in that variant view.
Create the ODB++ file as usual, but ensure that the name you give the file reflects the variant as well, this will keep each ODB++ file unique.
This process gives you the same result as if you had selected 'Generate separate variant outputs'.
The 'include variant data' (in one ODB++ file) is not available in DC based Variant Manager.
