I would like to know how to connect two nets with different names in a schematic...is there a special "Net Tie" symbol? How is this imported to the PCB?
You can use a starpoint component this is new VX.2.5 feature : https://support.mentor.com/en/knowledge-base/MG519108?pid=sc%3Asearch&pid_context=starpoint
This only works for Xpedition and this question is about PADS. As it is in the wrong place we will move it
This is covered in supportnet, you can use a | to merge 2 nets together.
But this would be seen in the PCB as a unique net with unique name, is this correct?
Yes, you now have one net.
If you want multiple nets, use a component like a zero ohm resistor to tie the 2 nets together.
PADS Pro 2.5 claims that it supports starpoints. However I cannot find a way to insert them into the schematic since they are not present in Special Components. Are they hidden somewhere else? Shold they be created by the user in Symbol Editor? Any help will be appreciated.
Yes, starpoints must be created in the symbol editor, they are not included with Special Components. You may review this video article for more information: https://communities.mentor.com/message/80520?commentID=80520&et=watches.email.thread#comment-80520
nkyle, many thanks for your reply. As for the video, I guess that the correct link was already posted above wrt Xpedition, i.e. https://support.mentor.com/en/knowledge-base/MG519108?pid=sc%3Asearch&pid_context=starpoint
