You can have multiple symbol views with the same name. I would create a .2 symbol with the changes you desire and save it in the library. Then simply select the .2 symbol in the DxDatabook symbol preview window.
For example with resistors I have a vertical resistor named res.1 and a horizontal resistor named res.2. This maintains properties in the correct locations.
With the netlist flow you can also add a local library and change the symbol locally.
Thanks Gary, I went with the local library option. It's not as straight forward as it used to be in the 2004 version we used to have. I do the res.1 and res.2 thing for resistors, caps, diodes but I did not want to clog up our main libraries with other specialized versions of symbols.
