I was wondering how Hyperlynx calculates the impedance on a TL. From my calculations, Hyperlynx treats my TL as a lossless line, but it is not. I'm looking at the impedance of an embedded microstrip and using a couple of formulas it is not the same impedance. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
HyperLynx uses a 2D EM field solver to determine transmission line impedance. When you use equations to calculate impedance, you need to be aware of the geometry assumptions used to develop the equations. This type of equation is valid for a certain range of input values, and the accuracy diminishes as your input values go outside this assumed range.
